Super Dollfie ~ Asian Ball Jointed Dolls
I can't remember exactly when I first saw a BJD - Asian Ball Jointed Doll - on Ebay, but it would have been around 2005. I vividly remember the image and found it so eerily like a small human that I didn't investigate further.
But then around the middle of 2006 on Ebay, I saw the most beautiful dolls - Boy dolls in fact - that I had ever seen. This definitely needed a further look! So my research began and I was determined to buy one of the larger, 60cm, BJDs to design and make new clothes for.
Because these gorgeous china-doll-like resin creations, with their glass eyes and limitless looks, are so expensive I ended up buying a Super Dollfie girl head on Ebay, and following it up with a body recommended by her previous owner from the fab CustomHouse in Korea.
This worked a treat - she is now my beautiful Yori, who still makes me faint in awe (she's sooooo gorgeous!! *^.^*) whenever I take her out of her cushion-padded box to create a new outfit, or try on a new wig or accessory I have bought for her!
The advice I have seen for buying a BJD, as they can be so very costly (not just the doll themselves, but the accessories such as wigs, shoes and eyes as well!), is to take your time to try to choose a doll you can 'bond' with. I couldn't have chosen a better first doll than Yori!
BJDs are amazing in that they can stand completely by themselves (if they are strung correctly) and that their expressions seem to change imperceptibly according to whether they are pleased or otherwise with how you choose to dress them!! (may sound weird, but BJD owners will know what I mean!!)
I hope to get a brother for Yori in the not-too-distant future, and maybe even a sister as well, so watch this space!... |
