Padme's Purple Senate Gown

My version of Padme's gorgeous gown was created using the softest, deepest purple silk velvet, pure silk noil, shimmering organza and black embroidered lace over dark plum silk dupion. This was the first outfit I saw in the promo pics for Episode III and I immediately fell in love with it! (Oh how I love purple!). The headdress was the trickiest part, and it took me three goes before I was satisfied with the result. The headdress was made from the reverse side of silver-grey pure silk satin, cut into a crescent moon shape front and back. The two halves were sewn inside out (to conceal the seams, as always!) and then turned right side out and carefully hand embroidered. The trickiest bit was sewing (and keeping) the kirby grip in place that I used to attach the headdress to Tyler's hair. The three "brooches" at the front neckline were constructed in a similar fashion, then embroidered with silk and sequins in small flower shapes inspired by those worn by Padme.
