Padme's Packing Gown

Constructed from pure silk dupion and black cotton velvet, my little handmade outfit for my Tonner Tyler 40cm doll was inspired by the elegant, practical outfit worn by Padme Amidala in the packing scene of Star Wars Episode II. The most intricately stunning parts of this costume, for me, were the front bodice embroidered panel and deceptively simple headdress.  I hand embroidered the front panel, made of pewter grey silk dupion, with golden and silver threads, and embellished it with faux turquoise beads in two sizes before attaching it to the figure-hugging velvet bodice.  The silk sleeves are gathered in at the elbow with rows of tiny silver ribbon, again beaded with faux turquoise.  I constructed the headdress from silver-plated jewellery wire, to fit Tyler's head snuggly.  The three silk dupion triangles were then carefully sewn and embroidered with silver and turquoise threads and attached to the headdress with silver thread.
